Alison Jones, Volunteer Researcher, will be exploring William Stott’s family history and his connection to Oldham.

Gallery Oldham's monthly lunchtime talks and tours are a great way to find out more about exhibitions, collections and specialist exhibitions. Talks are free, informal and last around 40 minutes with time for discussion afterwards.

Gallery Oldham is thrilled to be a partner on Tate’s national tour of this outstanding work of art. Le Passeur (The Ferryman) is the best-known painting by the man who is Oldham’s best-known painter. William Stott trained in Oldham, then travelled to Paris, where he quickly achieved recognition from fellow painters, critics and institutions. This exhibition will explore the way in which his career developed through contact with artists, and the influence he had on others.

This exhibition features highlights from Gallery Oldham’s collection alongside loans from other museums, including Tate, Manchester Art Gallery and Touchstones Rochdale.
